The National Aging In Place week highlights innovative solutions and progressive alternatives to meet the needs of this increasingly important social issue. To help older adults prepare for their later years, leaders from the aging in place field—home modification experts, geriatric care managers, financial planners, home care workers, to name a few—have banded together to host educational events in communities around the nation. SURFACE Inclusive Design Research Centre is part of the Research Institute for the Built and Human Environment at the University of Salford. Formed in 1999, SURFACE is a centre of excellence for promoting the understanding and practice of inclusion in all aspects of the design and use of the built environment and the external environment.
The Research House project investigates building ‘smarter’ and more ‘environmentally responsive’ homes. It brings together new and innovative design concepts, technologies and products and tests them in a single living environment to improve housing for Queenslanders.

Three themes will be explored during the four-day Conference in Montréal: Health, Participation and Security.
